Jefferson Parish School System July/August 2011
Honors Abound for Jefferson Schools
Diane Roussel, Jefferson Parish Public Schools Superintendent
Great things happen everyday in the Jefferson Parish Public School System!
We are very proud of our students and employees who have earned honors.
Three of our veteran administrators were named Principals of the Year: Yvette Gauthreaux of Audubon Elementary, Debbie Cooper of Ruppel Academy (Middle School) and Darvell Edwards of Helen Cox High School.
JPPSS Athletic Director Manny Barocco was named the 2011 Athletic Director of the Year by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.
Our students are being recognized as well. The nominees for the 2011–2012 Student of the Year are Maci Frickey from Kerner Elementary, Simran Gandhi from Haynes Academy and Senthil Rajasekaran from Grace King High School.
Three Jefferson Parish high schools won major state positions at the Louisiana Association of Student Councils (LASC) state-wide elections at its recent convention. There were 102 schools from across the state of Louisiana attending the convention. This is the first time in LASC history that three schools from the same parish will represent the state student councils in all state, regional, and national activities.
Bonnabel Magnet Academy is the President school with Courtney Matthews, a junior and president of the Bonnabel Student Council, serving as representative. East Jefferson High is the Secretary school with Ty Hibbs as representative. The State Parliamentarian school is Grace King High with Dylan Frese as representative. Matthews, Hibbs, and Frese will represent Louisiana at the National STAR conference in June in St. Louis, MO and at the regional conference in Athens, AL in October. ◗
